Governors

Like all schools which belong to a multi-academy trust, Spaxton CE Primary school has 3 levels of governance - members, the trust board and the local governance committee.

Members are responsible for ensuring QET meets its charitable objectives and that the trust board is effective.

Directors on the trust board are responsible for the performance, strategic direction and finance of all the schools in the trust. To help them, they delegate certain responsibilities to governors who sit on Local Governance Committees.

Governors work with individual schools to provide support and challenge at a local level. They are responsible, with the Head, for setting the school vision and ethos. They hold the Head to account for the curriculum provision, pupil outcomes and achievements. At Spaxton, they are also responsible for upholding its Church school status.

Meet our Local Governors

Mr A Watson

Chair of Governors

Mr Watson has been involved with Spaxton School as a parent since 2015, as a Parent Governor since April 2018, and he was elected as Co-Chair in January 2019. He has one child currently in Peregrine Class and he is passionate about being able to make a positive contribution to the school and every child’s education & development, playing a very much 'hands-on' active role in helping & supporting the school to go from strength to strength.

Areas of responsibility include SEND, Safeguarding and Ethos.

In his spare time, he is an optician, running successful optometric practices in Taunton & Wellington, and he enjoys camping with his family, sailing with his friends and a very occasional round of golf! Not a great fan of Bake Off, he would rather watch any sport, catch up with Master Chef or even Coronation Street!

Rev E King

Foundation Governor

Revd. King has been looking after the church in Spaxton, along with other churches locally since August 2018. She sees having a church school in the parish as a privilege, and is grateful for the warm welcome she receives when she pops into school for Collective Worship and other events.

Before becoming a priest, Revd. King was a Junior Church leader and a school Governor, where she gained experience of working with children, and being in school. Her focus is primarily on Collective Worship and school services in the church, and she is also on the Ethos committee. Eleanor enjoys living in rural Somerset, and going out walking when she can or developing the Rectory garden vegetable plot, though she is equally happy sitting with a cup of tea watching a detective drama!

Mr F Cairns

Parent Governor

Mr Cairns is an avid advocate for children and their rights in order improve their lives. In his spare time he enjoys sports, in particular Football and Mansfield Town FC, Cricket and golf. He enjoys going on wellie walks on the hills with his family and their dog Holly.

There are seven Local Governors Committee meetings per year (two in the first half term and then one per half term).

Mrs Beaumont-Wraith has worked in the education sector for almost 15 years providing marketing and communications support to schools and nurseries. She began working for the Quantock Education Trust in September 2022. She has three young children who also attend a village school, so understands how valued and vital these are to their communities, and what special places they are!

In her spare time, Mrs Beaumont-Wraith really enjoys exploring beautiful Somerset, attempting to grow some vegetables in the garden and going on lots of family adventures.
